LEE SIMMONDS MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT, 2008
SUNDAY 4TH MAY 2008

Following the death of one of our players (Lee Simmonds) - who died from Cardiomyopathy whilst playing for Verwood Town Reserves at Potterne Park in 1998 - we have held a one day football tournament in Lee's memory. The event proved so popular we have repeated the Tournament and this year will see the TENTH such event.

This years Tournament will take place at Potterne Park, Verwood on Sunday, 4th May 2008. 10 (or 12) teams will compete in two leagues throughout the day and will bring a squad of 14 players. There is no offside and the top two teams in each league will progress to the semi-finals - the final is played at 4.00 pm. First round teams kickoff at 10.00 am. Six Official Referees share duties throughout the day.

Verwood's modern pavilion boasts 10 changing rooms - refreshments are available throughout the day (including beer tent, bbq, teas etc.) The Final is played on Verwood Town's Sydenham Wessex League Division 1 pitch which has two stands, hard standing round the pitch, barriers, floodlights etc. A Grand Draw is held on the day with many prizes to be won and a superb day is promised with each team playing a minimum of four games (ten minutes each way duration).

NO ALCOHOL IS TO BE BROUGHT TO POTTERNE PARK - the beer tent holds the only licence and alcohol must be consumed at this facility. Verwood Town have raised in excess of £10,000 for various charities by running this event with the lions share being donated to THE CARDIOMYOPATHY ASSOCIATION.

The event is hugely popular and normally invitation only to local clubs, but some travelling clubs who come to the Bournemouth Area may like to extend their weekend by playing in the tournament. Subject to entries received, we are delighted to welcome new teams - would you please in the first instance contact Tournament Organiser Dave Leigh on 01202 826167 who will highlight full details of the event.

Thankyou
