4-May-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Verwood Town 1st XI on Penalties"
VERWOOD TOWN 1ST XI ran out winners of the Lee Simmonds Memorial Trophy after a dramatic penalty shoot out with KINGSTON LACY. Kingston Lacy nearly stole the show by leading Verwood 1-0 until a stunning goal from Ben Giles snatched a dramatic equaliser. The penalty shoot out produced 11 superbly taken penalties which would have graced the Premiership - but with Verwood leading 6-5, a gutsy Kingston Lacy side missed the last and only penalty. In front of a large crowd prior to the Main Final - after a very entertaining game, Verwood Sports & Social beat a sporting Magpies & Woolsbridge 1-0. Full report from organiser Dave Leigh posted Click Here).
26-Apr-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Home-r Run for fourth place"
Two goals from Luke Homer help Verwood to a 2-2 draw against Amesbury Town which prove enough to secure 4th place in the Sydenhams (Wessex) Division 1 for season 2007/8
[Picture] A defensive mix up is pounced upon as Luke Homer rounds veteran Amesbury keeper Martin Maggs (playing his last game) to level the score at 1-1.
With Verwood and Totton & Eling going into the last game of the season level on points, a good result at Amesbury was vital. It proved a mixed affair with Amesbury taking, and holding a lead until half-time. Two strikes from Luke Homer put Verwood back on top, with Amesbury then levelling to finish 2-2. Totton & Eling lost 1-2 at home to third placed Farnborough NE which resulted in Verwood retaining a very creditable 4th place finish for the season.
19-Apr-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Tunnel For Tadley"
Verwood give Division 1 table toppers and confirmed League Champions Tadley Calleva a celebratory entrance to Potterne Park. Tadley took a 3-0 half-time lead but Verwood fought back strongly in the second and narrowly failed to grab a point losing 2-3. It was Super Saturday in Division 1 as the top four teams all clashed. Verwood's loss leaves them in a fight for fourth place with Totton & Eling who are level on points.

6-Apr-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "April Snow(ers) replace April Showers"
We awake to an unseasonal cold winter wonderland. It only lasted a few hours and was already starting to melt by the time your photographer took this picture. 29-Mar-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Verwood Clean Up Against Portchester"

22-Mar-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Arnold Blast sets up Windy Win "
Paul Arnold blasts home a fierce shot to score the first goal in Verwood's 2-0 win over Petersfield. The game being played in strong, gusting, freezing cold winds with occasional hail/sleet. (Well - it was the Saturday of the Easter Bank holiday period so what else would we expect)
18-Mar-08 Easter Prospects
Easter is the traditional period when the Football Leagues really begin to take on their final shape, and players/supporters look closely at the remaining fixtures ahead to predict results

Verwood currently lie 4th in Wessex League Division 1 and are looking for a strong finish with 5 out of the last 7 games at home.

A busy weekend is in prospect over Easter at Potterne Park with 3.00pm Kick Offs on both Saturday (Petersfield Town) and Easter Monday (Totton & Eling).

It's strange how the fixtures work out, but through postponements and re-arrangements etc. Verwood have yet to face Petersfield this season who currently lie just behind us in the league with a last 6 game form guide of WWLWLW. A close match in prospect then, with both sides still having aspirations for a top two (OK realistically only 2nd!) league finish.

On Easter Monday, we host our nearest Division 1 neighbours (in terms of mileage - 20!), Totton & Eling, who will be looking to avenge our 3-2 Boxing Day victory over them in a game where the lead swung 3 times. Their last 6 match form guide is a positive with WWLDWW and so we can expect another close competitive match.

Of the seven games remaining this season, five are at home which by any normal rules of football should be good! However, a quick comparison of home points for teams in the Wessex League 1 with those in the FA Premiership shows less of an advantage for teams in our league. In the Premiership 60% of points are gained from home fixtures, in Wessex 1 only 50%. Probably due to the slightly less daunting prospect for away teams visiting places like Potterne Park, or Love Lane (Petersfield) compared to visits to places like Old Trafford or Anfield!

On the positive side our home form is good (W 10, D 2, L 3)

As for the Weather, who knows ! - I'll get my anorak !

15-Mar-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "The Return Of The King"

16-Feb-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Ferry disappointing but about Wight"
A 1-1 draw at East Cowes Victoria. A disappointing result on the Island in the challenge for promotion but one point keeps us third in Wessex Division 1.
[Picture] Russell Dyer leaps high to win the header
13-Feb-08 The 'Blues' in Beijing?, the Red Devils in Dubai?, or the Spurs in Sydney? Nevermind all the fuss over the prospect of far away games for the Big Boys, Verwood have their own 'overseas' match this Saturday at Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

6-Feb-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Whitchurch Woe"

2-Feb-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "The Third of Fourth"

29-Dec-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Laverstock Leave with a Point"
It could have been more, but some resolute Verwood defending and fine saves held the score at 0-0. Verwood had their chances too though and hit the crossbar late in the second half
The first 0-0 of the season rounds out the year and continues our unbeaten run to 7 games.
27-Dec-07 A successful celebration of the Club was held with the Festive Floodlit Friendly held on 27-Dec between the Reserves, and teams made up from Committee/Sponsors/Supporters and Veterans. Well done to all those who participated in the highly entertaining match-ups. A big thank you to everyone who organized the event (including the excellent food and after's at the Sports and Social Club) and to the many friends and supporters who came to watch!
26-Dec-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Boxing Day Fight Back"
Christmas Day may be over but the celebrations continue as Verwood turn over a two goal deficit to win 3-2 at Totton & Eling
A big turnaround as Verwood concede 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the second half but then fight back strongly to win in a game which saw 3 red cards!.
23-Dec-07 In addition to the scheduled first team away match at Totton and Eling on Boxing day (12 Noon), don't forget the Festive Friendly Floodlit Match on Thursday 27th December 2007 (5:30pm) at Potterne Park.
It is proposed that the Reserve side get their chance under the new lights with an extravaganza of football.
Their opponents in the first half will be a team formed of Committee members, Sponsors and Supporters. At half time, the Reserves' opponents change to a Veteran 'Masters' side that played together back in the mists of time and featuring Adie Arnold and Galer.
22-Dec-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Football Fogged Off after Forty"
Rolling mist at Potterne Park causes the match against Whitchurch to be abandoned as half time approached

The mist drifted in and out shortly after the game had started making it difficult for players, officials and spectators alike. With the score at 0-0 and nearly 40 minutes played, the conditions had worsened considerably and a short break was ordered to see if things would improve. Whilst some took the footballing equivalent of a cricket 'early tea', managers readied their players with fog lights and the officials continued to monitor the situation. After a short while it was apparent conditions would not improve and the match abandoned.
15-Dec-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Movin' On Up"
Captain Luke Homer steers the Starship Verwood Town up to 4th place in Wessex Division one with the second of his two goals in the 4-3 away victory at Hythe and Dibden
- With the temperature just holding above freezing, Verwood win 4-3 on the leaf covered slopes of Ewart Recreation Ground. Homer(2), King and Goodall make the scoresheet.
13-Dec-07 Another Close Finish Perhaps? - This Saturday (15-Nov) Verwood travel to Hythe & Dibden. Some recent encounters between them have gone the full distance; with late winners, 5 goals, and one team losing a 2 goal advantage. In the corresponding fixture last season Hythe & Dibden overturned Verwood's 2 goal lead to win, but in the match at Potterne this August Verwood returned the 'compliment' to win 3-2.
08-Dec-07 Due to a waterlogged pitch and with the promise of more rain, today's home game against Petersfield Town has been postponed (8-Dec)

After a mix of emotions where the lead changed 3 times with 4 goals in the closing stages, Paul Reeves turns to celebrate Verwood's late winner in the 4-3 away win against AFC Portchester. Verwood move up one place to 5th in Division 1.
24-Nov-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - 'Ecstasy & Relief'
Dan Goodall breaks the deadlock against Blackfield & Langley after much early pressure and several Verwood chances. Dan later scores a second from the penalty spot and Verwood win 2-1 to stay sixth in Division 1.
24-Nov-07 Verwood put in a very strong first half performance against Blackfield and Langley, creating many chances, and go in with a 2 goal lead with both goals from this season's top scorer Dan Goodall (one from the penalty spot) The visitors fight back in the second half with Verwood failing to take opportunities to wrap up the game. The visitors pressure eventually results in a goal but too late to affect the result. Final Score Verwood 2 Blackfield & Langley 1.
18-Nov-07 Back to winning ways! A thumping 5-0 win against Amesbury Town puts Verwood back on track after 4 games without a win. Verwood were 4-0 up at half time and added a solitary goal in the second half without reply. Every goal a different scorer! Goals from Dyer, King, Goodall, Arnold and Homer

13-Nov-07 Verwood Reserves progress to Round 3 of the Dorset Intermediate Cup with a 3-0 away win against Wyke Regis Social Club. Round 3 sees them drawn away again, this time versus Crossways. Tie to be played on 8-Dec 1:45pm KO
11-Nov-07 Plenty of goals again this season in our home fixture with United Services Portsmouth on Saturday 10th which ended 2-2. In a good game (for the neutral supporter) it was pretty end to end with chances aplenty. Verwood twice surrendered the lead. Goals from Elysee and Dyer.
11-Nov-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Willis Saves The Day"
Verwood Keeper Chris Willis saves the day once again in the 2-2 draw with United Services Portsmouth
7-Nov-07 This Saturday (10-Nov) Verwood entertain United Services Portsmouth at Potterne Park. Last year, the fixtures netted a total of 11 goals. In September of 2006 Verwood lost 4-3 at Potterne Park, despite having held leads at 2-0 and 3-1. One month later the return fixture brought a thumping 4-0 victory for Verwood. It will be the second trip of the week into the area for this weeks visitors (United Services Portsmouth). On Tuesday they came, and went away with a 4-1 victory over our near neighbours (and Wessex Premier League side) Ringwood Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup. Let's hope the Verwood spies were watching !!
5-Nov-07 Match reports for Shaftesbury, Sherborne (away) and Reserve team reports now posted
4-Nov-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Fireworks Fizzle Out"
Chris Lynch challenges the Shaftesbury keeper from the cross. Verwood fail to light 'blue touch paper' as Guy Fawkes night approaches and go down to a late goal. However, Verwood remain at 7th place in the Wessex League Division 1.
4-Nov-07 Following up our 'Halloween Horror' at Sherborne (where we went out of the Dorset Senior Cup despite a good performance) we failed to light the blue touch paper on our fireworks against Shaftesbury losing 1-0 to a late goal in the darkness at Potterne. That completes a miserable 8 days with 3 defeats on the bounce. Let's hope we've had our poor patch of the season and return to winning ways.
31-Oct-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Halloween Horror"
"Halloween Horror for Verwood supporters at Sherborne" - actually a closely fought and entertaining contest but Verwood lose 2-0 and exit the Dorset Senior Cup
27-Oct-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Bright Start Damp Finish"
Charlie Elysee's volley puts Verwood one up in a good first 30 minutes for Verwood. Thereafter it all went wrong
27-Oct-07 Verwood started well against second in the table Laverstock & Ford creating chances and looking resolute in defence. A Charlie Elysee volley from a left side cross put them one up. After half an hour Laverstock & Ford began to get on top and we hung out to half time courtesy of some poor Laverstock finishing. The second half was spent (unsuccessfully) trying to keep Laverstock & Ford out. A penalty (for the second year running here) equalized and further goals dampened spirits in the drizzly conditions. At 3-1 down we at last started to create some attacks, but the crossbar and the replacement Laverstock keeper still managed to keep us out.
21-Oct-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Close Confrontation"
Charlie Elysee attempts to wrestle possession from East Cowes in a much tighter affair than our previous encounter last week
21-Oct-07 Hot Shots Goals tallies changed - News just in that the individual goal counts have been adjusted following adjudication for bragging rights :-) I quote...."Hi Tech expert Charlie Elysee doctored the Liss scorers swiping one off Pete King and adding one for himself. Pat Yerby did the same the following week robbing poor old Russell Dyer. Like Humpty Dumpty we've put it back together again, so the pecking order in our Hot Shot chart has taken on a different look".
20-Oct-07 Plenty of goals today and Verwood eventually get the better of East Cowes having twice gone behind. East Cowes took the lead near the start of both the first and second halves. Verwood goals from Elysee, Homer and Goodall.
13-Oct-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "No Game Today"
No Game today! - Anyone for a "Knees Up" - Paul Arnold takes it in his stride (almost!) in the 1-0 away victory at Fleet Spurs last week
11-Oct-07 Verwood get an Away draw at Sherborne Town in the Dorset Senior Cup. The game is due to be played on Wednesday 31st October (7:45). Last season Sherborne Town went all the way to the final where they were narrowly beaten (2-1) by Dorchester Town

7-Oct-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Fleet Footed Verwood"
Dan Goodall celebrates - having outpaced the defence to score the only goal in an away victory at Fleet Spurs
6-Oct-07 Verwood started brightly and created some good chances but couldn't put them away. Fleet started to get back into the game when Dan Goodall in a second run towards the Fleet keeper netted the ball for 1-0. In the second half, Fleet created some reasonable openings but poor finishing and a couple of good saves kept them out. Our nervous supporters were treated to some fine 'head tennis' and 'up and unders' as the game drew to a conclusion!
29-Sep-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Liss Bliss"
Liss Athletic hold on for long part of the game but Verwood eventually put their chances away in the second half for a 2-0 win. (29-Sep)
29-Sep-07 The goals (along with heavy rain) came later in the second half to give Verwood a 2-0 victory over a determined Liss Athletic.
Verwood created some good chances in the first half and could have taken the lead except for the woodwork and some good saves from the Liss Keeper. Liss fought back themselves and went close with a saved shot by new keeper Willis hitting the underside of the crossbar. Verwood eventually converted the possesion and chances into goals in the last 20 minutes.
29-Sep-07 Please note there is NO First Team fixture on the 13-Oct.
25-Sep-07 A Link to the Bournemouth FA web site for Second Team Results/Fixtures has been added to the Seasons Results page
24-Sep-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "A Tad Too Hard"
Verwood push Tadley hard - but succumb to a 3-2 away defeat
23-Sep-07 Away at current Division 1 leaders Tadley Calleva, Verwood put in a strong first half performance with goals from King and Arnold giving them a 2-0 half-time lead. In the second half Tadley quickly come out of the blocks fighting and level the score before we have time to finish our cup of tea. Tadley go on to win 3-2.
15-Sep-07 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Lukeing Good"
Luke Homer slots in the third goal in 3-1 victory against Andover New St

An eventful game with Yerby taking over the second half goalkeeping duties for Verwood and nearly an hours delay after ambulance was required for an Andover players ankle injury in the second-half. Verwood take three points however with a 3-1 victory (goals from Elysee, Yerby and Homer) and now move up to 4th place in Wessex Division 1.
