4-May-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Verwood Town 1st XI on Penalties"

VERWOOD TOWN 1ST XI ran out winners of the Lee Simmonds Memorial Trophy after a dramatic penalty shoot out with KINGSTON LACY. Kingston Lacy nearly stole the show by leading Verwood 1-0 until a stunning goal from Ben Giles snatched a dramatic equaliser. The penalty shoot out produced 11 superbly taken penalties which would have graced the Premiership - but with Verwood leading 6-5, a gutsy Kingston Lacy side missed the last and only penalty. In front of a large crowd prior to the Main Final - after a very entertaining game, Verwood Sports & Social beat a sporting Magpies & Woolsbridge 1-0. 26-Apr-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Home-r Run for fourth place"

Two goals from Luke Homer help Verwood to a 2-2 draw against Amesbury Town which prove enough to secure 4th place in the Sydenhams (Wessex) Division 1 for season 2007/8
[Picture] A defensive mix up is pounced upon as Luke Homer rounds veteran Amesbury keeper Martin Maggs (playing his last game) to level the score at 1-1.
With Verwood and Totton & Eling going into the last game of the season level on points, a good result at Amesbury was vital. It proved a mixed affair with Amesbury taking, and holding a lead until half-time. Two strikes from Luke Homer put Verwood back on top, with Amesbury then levelling to finish 2-2. Totton & Eling lost 1-2 at home to third placed Farnborough NE which resulted in Verwood retaining a very creditable 4th place finish for the season.
19-Apr-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Tunnel For Tadley"

Verwood give Division 1 table toppers and confirmed League Champions Tadley Calleva a celebratory entrance to Potterne Park. Tadley took a 3-0 half-time lead but Verwood fought back strongly in the second and narrowly failed to grab a point losing 2-3. It was Super Saturday in Division 1 as the top four teams all clashed. Verwood's loss leaves them in a fight for fourth place with Totton & Eling who are level on points.

We awake to an unseasonal cold winter wonderland. It only lasted a few hours and was already starting to melt by the time your photographer took this picture. However, he did hear rumours from passing dog walkers that Verwood Assistant Manager Nigel Reeves had been out there first thing (shorts on of course!) wanting to take a training session !!

Kind Mr Referee presents Adam Faulkner with a "Going Away" card prior to his tour of duty with the forces. Thanks to Adam from everyone at Verwood for all the hard work and performances over the season - and Good Luck!

22-Mar-08 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "Arnold Blast sets up Windy Win "

Paul Arnold blasts home a fierce shot to score the first goal in Verwood's 2-0 win over Petersfield. The game being played in strong, gusting, freezing cold winds with occasional hail/sleet. (Well - it was the Saturday of the Easter Bank holiday period so what else would we expect)
18-Mar-08 Easter Prospects
Easter is the traditional period when the Football Leagues really begin to take on their final shape, and players/supporters look closely at the remaining fixtures ahead to predict results

Verwood currently lie 4th in Wessex League Division 1 and are looking for a strong finish with 5 out of the last 7 games at home.

A busy weekend is in prospect over Easter at Potterne Park with 3.00pm Kick Offs on both Saturday (Petersfield Town) and Easter Monday (Totton & Eling).

It's strange how the fixtures work out, but through postponements and re-arrangements etc. Verwood have yet to face Petersfield this season who currently lie just behind us in the league with a last 6 game form guide of WWLWLW. A close match in prospect then, with both sides still having aspirations for a top two (OK realistically only 2nd!) league finish.

On Easter Monday, we host our nearest Division 1 neighbours (in terms of mileage - 20!), Totton & Eling, who will be looking to avenge our 3-2 Boxing Day victory over them in a game where the lead swung 3 times. Their last 6 match form guide is a positive with WWLDWW and so we can expect another close competitive match.

Of the seven games remaining this season, five are at home which by any normal rules of football should be good! However, a quick comparison of home points for teams in the Wessex League 1 with those in the FA Premiership shows less of an advantage for teams in our league. In the Premiership 60% of points are gained from home fixtures, in Wessex 1 only 50%. Probably due to the slightly less daunting prospect for away teams visiting places like Potterne Park, or Love Lane (Petersfield) compared to visits to places like Old Trafford or Anfield!

On the positive side our home form is good (W 10, D 2, L 3)

As for the Weather, who knows ! - I'll get my anorak !

13-Feb-08 The 'Blues' in Beijing?, the Red Devils in Dubai?, or the Spurs in Sydney? Nevermind all the fuss over the prospect of far away games for the Big Boys, Verwood have their own 'overseas' match this Saturday at Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
