Match Report Verwood Town vs Wimborne Town 12-Sep-17

JOHN STIMPSON MEMORIAL SHIELD
TUESDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 2 WIMBORNE TOWN 4

Treading the turf …. Ben Daniels .. Matt Gilham .. Paul Jordan .. Harry Boyt .. Harry Grant .. Sam Scott .. Ben Oxtoby .. Jamie Robinson .. Jamie Webber .. Max Fletcher .. Jason Morgan ..

Gathering splinters .. Lee Dyer .. Andy Newman.

Work related absences robbed Charlie Richards of a bigger squad but confidence was high and we kicked off in an attacking mode. Oxtoby and Robinson gained space and a cross from Oxtoby found Webber. A cross shot beat the keeper but a full back's size 9's cleared the ball up field.

Instant reaction from Wimborne meant Daniels displaying good hands taking a ball dipping under the bar.

Boyt's centre of gravity was tested from a couple of strong tackles but winning his personal battles meant a couple of counters springing from accurate passing.

16 minutes Wimborne scored. Ben Daniels had pulled off a great flying save to flick the ball away from the foot of the post. The ball bounced kindly on the edge of the area for Wimborne and a low shot into the bottom corner made it 0-1.

2 minutes later Boyt freed up Jamie Webber and a great finish made it 1-1.

Half Time 1-1

The teams came out to sheeting rain and strong winds. Charlie Richards put aside his umbrella opting for a onesy and a tea cosy for a hat.

Newman took over from an injured Jamie Webber at half time and on 53 minutes made it 2-1 after steering the ball past the keeper from close in.

Fletcher and Robinson worked the ball down the left and Fletcher skipped inside his marker on the edge of the box to shoot across the keeper. A coat of varnish separated the ball from the post.

72 minutes saw Wimborne draw level after a scramble in the box. 2-2.

Grant had to come off with an ankle injury and with only 8 minutes left he ball was fired in from the left and a simple tap in sent Wimborne in at full time 2-4.

Result 2-4
