Match Report Verwood Town vs Christchurch 04-Nov-17

SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 2 CHRISTCHURCH 4

Frost’s touchline throw found Anderton. Anderton headed on and Gale stole in on the back post to bury the ball in the net. 1-0 and only 50 seconds gone.

8 minutes and Gale again scored from an Ollie Davies generated cross into the box. 2-0.

We continued to press and should have had a third on 15 minutes when Guthrie’s shot was beaten out by the keeper.

Christchurch put a couple of good moves together bringing out excellent saves by Haigh.

Frost had a 30 yarder well saved under the bar and Davies put Anderton through to try a shot but only the side netting had trouble.

Browning and O’Hare were steady at the back well supported by Kmber and Webber.

Half Time 2-0

Christchurch changed formation at half time but it wasn’t that that gave them the edge in the opening minutes it was the dreaded Verwood malady of laxity.

A soft tackle on the edge of the box let in a runner and a well struck shot made it 2-1.

Christchurch tails were up and because of their ‘Want to Win’ attitude and our drop in standard went 2-2 as we allowed space and time for a quick build up and shot inside the box.

On 57 minutes another lapse in concentration and Christchurch were ecstatic as they went in front 2-3.

The game steadied up for a while and we should have drawn level with a couple of good opportunities. It wasn’t to be. Guthrie’s delivery from 30 yards over the keeper drifted over the angle. Then a Dyer corner was blatantly handled on the line but said to be missed by the ref.

Guthrie suffered a dead leg but elected to stay on as substitutions were used. Hockey came on for Anderton, Ballard on for Webber and Richardson on for Frost. An experienced Christchurch played out time and with 90+3 minutes gone were awarded a penalty. 2-4. The score line indicates an easy ride for the visitors but we were our own worst enemies with a lack lustre spell in the second half allowing 3 goals in ten minutes to find the net. This mornings papers though reflect a solid three points for Christchurch.

Result 2-4
