Match Report Ringwood Town vs Verwood Town 30-Dec-17

SYDENHAMS LEAGUE (WESSEX) DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 30th DECEMBER 2017
RINGWOOD TOWN 3 VERWOOD TOWN 2

Despite heavy downpours during the night the pitch was playable. Ringwood made the running straight from the kick off with an attack on the right. O’Hare was in quickly to stop the cross.

For a change we seemed organized in these early few minutes and on 6 minutes we broke the Ringwood shackles and a great ball across the box found Gale. An unstoppable right foot shot whipped into the top corner. 0-1.

We had to battle for a share of the ball and the Dyer Glatzel link in midfield looked a solid combination.

Ringwood applied pressure on the flanks keeping James and O’Hare fully occupied.

A volley from just outside the box headed for the top corner of our net but a very capable Isaac James took the catch under the angle.

23 minutes Guthrie went past his marker and from the right whipped in a cross for Gale. A volley from the edge of the box whistled over the bar.

A minute later we were caught napping as we failed to shuttle back and a long ball was chased down to put the score at 1-1.

On 42 minutes Dyer’s corner was headed wide by Frost. Two minutes later Kelly’s reverse pass was hammered pat the keeper by a very sharp Gale. 2-1.

Half Time 2-1

15 minutes into the second half saw us on the front foot and a clever Dyer chip over the full back freed Gale. A great cross and Vining steered the ball into the net. !!! The linesman flagged an offside. A wag in the crowd suggested an anal application of the flag.

We then went into our ‘sleep mode’. We watched as Ringwood drifted through the middle of the park and unchallenged put the ball past a frustrated Haigh. 2-2

4 minutes later we did our usual and let in Ringwood for a simple goal 2-3.

We missed an open goal a couple of minutes later as we got ourselves together again. Ryan Kelly steered the ball past the foot of the post and we then missed an open goal as we stayed on attack.

78 minutes Sammy Glatzel came off for Sam Hockey. A couple of positional changes and we pushed on.

Guthrie was creating concern in the Ringwood ranks and a great piece of footwork took him past a defender. A left foot shot was blocked on the line. Hockey’s follow up was cleared out of the area.

Ringwood’s response was a fast counter and a shot from the edge of the box was brilliantly finger tipped over the bar by James.

85 minutes Webber came on for Vining. 86 minutes on came Manley for Frost. 87 minutes Ringwood broke through and made it 2-4. !!!!!

We missed a golden opportunity 2 minutes later but on 92 minutes Kelly planted a header past the keeper to make it 3-4. It was a grandstand finish but Ringwood took the three points.

Result 3-4
