Match Report Fawley vs Verwood Town 01-Sep-21

WESSEX LEAGUE CUP 1ST ROUND
WEDNESDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2021
FAWLEY 2 VERWOOD TOWN 0

A frantic opening 2 minutes saw the ball in both areas but nothing to cheer about. In fact as far as we were concerned there was very little in the game to cheer about.

For the first time this season we failed to score despite having several golden opportunities.

In the first 10 minutes the ball was like a hot potato it needed a foot on the ball instead of a toe ender. It was a case of matching like for like.

Watkins and Anderton worked hard containing flank attacks while Cooper and Cowling did enough to cut out the odd move through the middle.

Vining benefitted from a Watkins cross but shot wide. Meddah crossed for Butler to take a coat of varnish off the post but we couldn’t find the net.

Half Time 0-0

Fawley seemed more alive than we did in the opening minutes and Taylor earned his corn with a couple of good saves while Dickenson Kelly Anderton and Watkins steadied the defensive shield.

We should have stopped the onslaught but had left energy and the desire to win in the dressing room.

A great opportunity popped after five minutes but the usual deadly Butler skied a penalty over the bar. Not our night.

Fawley got stronger. We wilted. It was poor passing for a long spell from both teams and half way through the half Fawley went ahead with a simple goal when Moses must have intervened opening up the middle of the park.

Substitutions were made but to no avail.

Anderton’s presence came to a cruel end with 35 minutes gone when a tackle went wrong and Kris had to be stretchered off. Ankle ligament damage will keep him sidelined for a lengthy period.

46 minutes gave Fawley the win when a Dickenson tackle in the box was judged a foul.

Result 0-2.
