Match Report Verwood Town vs Romsey Town 25-Sep-21

WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 2021
VERWOOD TOWN 3 ROMSEY TOWN 1

Romsey’s usual rapid start was to be expected. Webber back tracked to help Watkins deal with the early attack.

A minute later a hopeful Romsey shot from the edge of the box tested Taylor but was capably dealt with.

A Cooper chip released Gray but an offside flag stopped the chance of going ahead.

Dickenson, alongside Burt in a central shuffle got under a couple of hopeful high balls into our box and with Burt’s strong presence we looked quite solid.

Romsey tried a switch to midfield play but on the day it was a Hall and Cooper territory blocking Romsey’s approach.

Webber’s cross half way through the half was met by Gajic a few yards out but Romseys keeper made an exceptional save.

10 minutes to go and Meddah whipped a great cross into the box for Vining to follow up. A half volley was blocked and cleared off the line.

A quick counter and we got caught short leaving enough room for a high ball into the box that slipped under the bar. 0-1.

Half Time 0-1.

Our half time chat worked. Good movement created space in the middle and Gajic took pleasure in enjoying a bit of space to tuck the ball past the keeper. 1-1.

Tails up we slung several attacks together giving Romsey’s defence a torrid time.

Webber worked the right flank and a ball into the box was snapped up by Vining. Good feet and the ball whistled past the keeper to put us ahead. 2-1.

Gray made it 3-1 following up a Meddah run on goal and nipped round the full back to tap the ball past the keeper. 3-1.

The whistle went on a good game and a deserved 3 points.

Result 3-1.
