Match Report Totton & Eling vs Verwood Town 19-Mar-22

WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 19TH MARCH 2022
TOTTON & ELING 0 VERWOOD TOWN 4

For the first time in many weeks we had a settled squad and one eager to follow up on last weeks ECV result.

Only a minute old and Jake Carswell whipped a corner over the bar. A good sign of intent.

5 gone and Vining had a run blocked on the edge of the box. Hall made himself available and taking the ball wide delivered Carswell a chance. Carswell’s shot had the keeper scrambling but stopped the ball crossing the line.

Totton & Eling perked up and a good central move looked threatening until a Summer header broke up play.

Hall was buzzing. Linking with Bradley a run down the right finished with a deep cross that Joe Freak was inches away from turning over the line.

Broad broke up a right flank attack and a keep ball followed for a few minutes between Mason Davies and Broad taking the sting out of Totton & Eling's pressure.

On 17 minutes a central move by Totton & Eling reached the box but Maher’s anticipation was spot on as he raced off his line to take the ball. A good throw found Vining. Good feet took him past defenders. Riding a strong tackle Vining laid off to Carswell. A great volley — 1-0.

Tackles were getting tougher. Vining was cut down as well as Bradley on the flank. Joe Freak thought he had developed a second skin.

On 26 minutes Vining deservedly notched our second with a half volley from just inside the box. 2-0.

Bradley coasted past a defender with 30 minutes on the clock. A squared ball landed nicely for Joe Freak to notch a third. 3-0.

Half Time 3-0

A great start to the second half resulted in Joe Freak coolly slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 4-0. The move was from the kick off with Bradley and Vining cutting a path to the edge of Totton & Eling’s box, The rest was down to a reliable Joe Freak.

Totton & Eling’s response was immediate. Balls into the box and runners. Maher came into his own. Excellent handling but well shielded by a strong back line.

The game stuttered with both teams guilty of poor quality passing.

On 30 minutes of the half gone Carswell suffered a facial injury and had to come off.

The game finished with a solid 4-0 win and a very welcome 3 points.

Result 4-0
