SATURDAY 9TH AUGUST 2025
HAMWORTHY UNITED RESERVES 1 VERWOOD TOWN 3
The first league fixture for both teams produced a long settling in period with a spattering of long ball and some ‘on the deck’ attacking spells.
A couple of good opportunities fell our way but none converted.
Edmond’s did well to keep out a couple of hopeful efforts but we waited until the 37th minute before a net bulged. Unfortunately it was a deflected corner into our net that gave the score board a chance to rub off the rust. 0-1.
Bentleys role was effective with good reading of the game and timely interventions blocking a couple of runs on goal. Harvey and Pope were solid as Ham U tried hard to break through.
Half time came with Ham U in front 1-0.
Harvey suffered a calf strain at the beginning of the half but a Rob Beck treatment was sufficient to have him back in the fray within a couple of minutes.
Knott and Pope were catching the eye with some good penetrating passes and gradually we got the edge in possession. Khider had a couple of shots bringing the best of a number excellent saves from the keeper.
27 minutes of pressure paid off. An inswinging corner caused havoc in Ham U’s box. In swept Pope to plant a header firmly past the keeper. 1-1.
Craciun made his presence felt with a break down the right and a produced a great cross headed just over the bar by Khider.
36 minutes and pressure paid off. Another corner and this time Harvey climbed high to nod the ball into the top corner. 2-1.
Tails up we put together some good football bringing the best out of the Ham U defence.
15 to go and Wearden cut across the edge of the box and hit a right footer into the top corner. 3-1.
We created more opportunities before the final whistle but settled for a gutsy team performance earning three points.
Result. 3-1.
