Match Report Verwood Town vs Blandford United 16-Aug-25
DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 16TH AUGUST 2025
VERWOOD TOWN 0 BLANDFORD UNITED 2
A team sheet correction was needed just prior to kick off with Lewis Harvey suffering a knee issue and having to withdraw. A shuffle in defence and an adjustment up front saw us kick off our first home game of the season against Blandford United.
4 minutes old and Danvers raced away down the left to fire a low cross into the box. The keeper gathered, untroubled.
Blandford retaliated with a quick counter down their right. Pope cut out the threat with a powerful header stopping a run on goal.
Only 7 on the clock and we should have gone ahead with a good move and cross. No one was on the end of a golden opportunity.
We had a higher percentage of possession but couldn’t break the Blandford defence.
Knott and Weardon worked hard in the middle and with Danvers and Shiv overlapping created several chances to go ahead. It was however another drought.
Over the bar. Wide of the posts. Straight down the keepers throat.!!!!
Frustration was rife. 15 minutes gone and Blandford whipped in a ball from the left. No cover, 0-1.
The half continued in the same vein good attacks……no finish.
Half time. 0-1.
An unbelievable spell in the first few minutes of the re start saw three clear cut chances of scoring, going wide, over the top and a miscue five yards off the line. Blandford gained confidence and pushed us back.
16 minutes into the second half we gave ground and never covered a cross that provided a scramble in the box. A toe ender on the line gave Blandford a second.0-2.
No heads dropped despite the frustrations in front of goal. The game gives management a headache in terms of finding a retaliatory striker. Other than that the signs are there for a competitive team emerging.
Result. 0-2
