Match Report Westland Sports vs Verwood Town 20-Sep-25
DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER 2025
WESTLAND SPORTS 3 VERWOOD TOWN 1
Our usual sleepy start was disbanded. Westlands early stampede was curbed, and a safe Beck pair of hands kept the score sheet blank. Recent games, because of lethargy in the opening stages, have resulted in us gong behind within the first ten minutes. Today although under pressure we managed to contain a robust forward line until the 20th minute when a scramble in the box resulted in a low shot creeping past Beck into the bottom corner. 0-1.
We rallied and Gill went close with a shot from the edge of the box that clipped the post.
Driving rain and a strong gusty wind destroyed quality but Westlands adjusted better than we did and on 33 minutes scored a second from a dipping high ball into the penalty area that was followed in and steered past Beck. 0-2.
Half time. 0-2
We had a shaky opening few minutes but quickly settled in and the lackadaisical approach for most of the first half was replaced with a better energy and purpose.
16 minutes gone and pressure paid off. Good feet took Knott past defenders and a through ball was partly cleared before White steamed through to plant the ball past the keeper 1-2.
We then suffered our usual malaise. Openings created, chances frequently popping up to score but no one able to finish the job.
Frustration with ten minutes left led to a gamble with Pope and Harvey leaving the back line thin by pushing up, The gamble didn’t pay off and with 52 minutes on the clock Westland punted a clearance out of the box leaving a runner free to make the score line look better than it deserved.
We left disappointed without taking away a point a least.
Result. 1-3
