The night saw a Verwood team provide a very watchable performance against Sturminster Newton in the County Cup.

A couple of tweaks in the line up and with Connor Ford making his debut up front sparked a sharper than usual start against Western League front runners Sturminster Newton.

Craciun had a shot kicked off the line with 3 minutes gone. An immediate counter had Knibbs making a save at the foot of the post.

Midfield had a few good battles with Matthews revelling in a new role. Quality of football made a good watch so for the spectators it was worth braving a very cold night.

The half finished with Stur testing Knibbs but without scoring.

The re start was dominated by a fired up opposition. Defensively we were solid and with midfield on form we resisted Stur's efforts to score.

We reversed the attacking period, and Ford along with Franklyn's telling passes made the visiting keeper prove his worth.

The game flowed and had thrills and spills at both ends.

Another spell of our pressure almost paid off with Craciun and Ford having shots kicked off he line just before the final whistle.

Result at full time. 0-0

We went to penalties. Sadly we lost the challenge 4-3.

So, we wish Sturminster Newton the best of luck in their ongoing travels to win the trophy.
