DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 8TH AUGUST 2026
WESTLAND SPORTS 3 VERWOOD TOWN 3
A scorching hot day at Westlands welcomed our first league game of the season.
A scorching start as well, as we netted 2 goals in the first 8 minutes.
The first was a Colarelli volley into the bottom corner sparked from good football and stemming from a mid field through ball onto the edge of the area. 0-1.
The flow continued and on 8 minutes Best released Colarelli and his low cross into the box was hammered past the keeper by Pope. 0-2.
Could we make it 3. We went close but Westland closed ranks and defended in depth. It did the trick.
Bartlett and Knott worked hard bottling up the middle forcing Westlands into long balls for their flanks.
23 minutes gone and we gave away the ball in Westlands third. A counter resulted in Westland getting on the score board. 1-2.
31 and a resurgent Westlands drew level with a good goal freeing up a runner who made no mistake slipping the ball past an advancing Wallis. 2-2.
Tackles became feisty but the score board remained dormant until the whistle.
Half Time 2-2
Activity in both areas heralded the start of the second half. We pressed on a resilient Westland back four. Counters down the middle kept Pope and Penn busy so Westlands play switched to flanks. Joyce and Best were constantly tested but held firm. Joyce unfortunately had to come off on 17 minutes with severe cramp. Kerr came on
Spectators enjoyed an end to end game with Westlands going close more often than us as the the half progressed.
On 20 minutes we gained a corner. The ball looked as if it was in a pin ball machine until Mckinley slammed it past a packed area to make it 3-2.
Best had to come off with 15 left being replaced by Howes.
Westlands pressure became intense with 10 to go. We held out until 43 had gone and then yielded to a leveller from just inside the box. 3-3.
The whistle went on a tired bunch of players and a point each.
Result 3-3
