Wallis, in the first minute had to show good hands as Holt emulated our start against Westlands. A ball wide left caught us still settling but luckily Wallis was well placed to take a difficult catch.

Pressure continued. Pope and Penn coped well centrally while Joyce and Best bedded in.

We countered on 7 minutes with Demira finishing a move delivering a low shot forcing a good save from the keeper.

Holt continued pushing on keeping our defence on their toes.

Possession evened and the game opened up to both sides in an attacking frame of mind.

We had several chances to go ahead but last years dearth of conversions was again in focus.

Half Time 0-0

The second half saw Holt again opening with a move down their left and Best pulling off a great tackle to clear danger.

Holt’s possession paid off with a goal from a corner hooked in during a pin ball exercise in the penalty box. 0-1.

No heads dropped, and again we had an open game with both teams pushing for goals.

We had a good spell, but with 20 minutes left and for some inexplicable reason relaxed allowing Holt space and time to add pressure.

29 minutes and a high ball into our third caught us thin on the ground. A runner went free to make it 0-2.

On 46 minutes we gave the ball away just outside the box and suffered a third Holt goal. 0-3.

In modern parlance there were ‘positives’ but the bottom line was a lethargic last 20 minutes giving Holt bragging rights.

Result 0-3
