VERWOOD TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2026
VERWOOD TOWN 3 HAMWORTHY RECREATION RESERVES 2

For a change we were first on attack. Rahman rounded his marker but put his shot high over the bar. HR response was a direct counter but foiled by a Penn tackle on the edge of the area.

The game flowed but on 8 minutes we fell into sleep mode allowing a break down the left and a cross shot beating Joscelyn on the near post. 0-1.

Ham Rec continued their pressure bringing a couple of good saves by Joscelyn and a more solid defensive shield.

14 on the clock and a Kerr Penn link broke open the mid field. A run by Knott was blocked on the edge of the box and cleared high up field.

We then went through a poor passing phase resulting in more possession by HR. Mid field was stalemate.

Possession gained towards the end of the half put us back on top and on 40 minutes Kerr headed a cross into the path of Colarelli, 1-1.

5 minutes later Kwawinda fastened on to a through ball from Penn and made no mistake with a low volley into the bottom corner. 2-1

Half Time 2-1

Hamworthy’s opening few minutes was full of energy obviously fired by a half time adrenalin rush. Joscelyn took a good catch from a deep cross and then Pope was busy sending the ball back into Ham’s third from long balls and runners.

A Mayo effort on 8 minutes deserved better than a clipped bar. The response was, as expected, instant. Penn working cover with Joyce, cut out a couple of flank runs.

12 gone and we fell into a brief lapse of concentration. Long ball out of Ham’s defence, a runner going free. 2-2.

It gave way for handbag exchanges and then a physical clash on 23 minutes resulting in a fracas that took 5 minutes to resolve.

The game deteriorated in quality with both teams scrapping for a winner.

31, Howe came on for Kwawinda.

33, good football took us into HR box. A heavy tackle gave us a penalty. Up stepped Pope ..3-2.

The game swayed. Tackles had the Ref’s whistle glued to lips. Luckily there were no serious injuries.

The last few minutes had the ball in both boxes but the final whistle went on a well earned three points.

Result 3-2
