Report

Things are looking up with probably our best overall performance of the season. We battled for the full 90 minutes and although Suttoners had the majority of the play during the match, the first half was quite even with the better chances falling to Verwood.

Having to select an injured goalkeeper, Colin has a hand and leg injury, the team talk was to protect him as much as possible as he wouldn't be able to either kick or catch the ball! Credit to the bloke for turning out and he went on to have an outstanding performance; making three or four top quality saves.

For the outfield players we battled, hunting in pairs as much as possible and getting to the ball first which is something we have not managed to do much this season. The back four played solidly with Coley again filling in at right back having a superb game and Pete Eyre looking like a natural centre back. Ben Giles had an accomplished game, although sometimes he reminds me of why I can't give up smoking with his decision making whilst under pressure. Young Conor at left back is developing all the time and is making that position his own.

The midfield 4 worked hard, with Matt Newbury and Andy Munson in the centre more than holding their own against a strong Suttoners midfield. The two wide players, Sean on the right who must have run the equivalent of a marathon and Will on the left also both had excellent games.

Tom and Tristan worked hard up front and their constant movement and speed caused Suttoners a lot of problems.

Our best chances in the first half came with a free kick outside the box which Matt took, striking the bar; the rebound came out to Sean who then headed against the bar! With a couple of minutes to go until half time from a corner the ball came to Pete Eyre who from a yard out miraculously managed to get it over the bar with his favoured left peg.

The second half saw us under the cosh but we held firm. Suttoners had a number of chances but their finishing was woeful at times and those that were on target found Colin doing the necessary. We kept trying to get a winner with even Will Cobley having a few shots and he hasn't scored for Verwood for about 3 seasons! All in all an excellent point, a clean sheet but most importantly a performance the Club can be proud of.
