Match Report Verwood Town vs Poole Borough 3-Nov-2010

DORSET SENIOR CUP
WEDNESDAY 3RD NOVEMBER
VERWOOD TOWN 1 POOLE BOROUGH 3

A quick attack, a cross and Murray drove the ball wide. Delaney headed the dead ball kick back into Borough's half for Dyer to move wide,... cross for Williams but Williams only half hit the ball making it an easy catch for the keeper.

Borough retaliated down the left but the cross was easy for Fawcett to take under control.

3 minutes and Elysee broke free on the right. A good cross found Haskell on the edge of the area but his shot went straight to the keeper.

6 minutes later Lanahan pushed a great through ball into PB's area for Haskell to volley. The keeper this time made a great save.

We had enjoyed a good spell right at the beginning but Borough had dug in and mounted several good attacks that made us defend deep.

Fawcett was kept busy but his handling was exceptional. Both keepers looked on top form.

A long clearance from the PB keeper caught us napping and luckily the break finished with a shot sailing over the bar.

26 minutes and Fawcett won a one on one.

28 minutes saw Fawcett leap to his left to palm away a volley and two minutes later had to perform another flying save as Borough threatened to go in front.

We survived another attack and then could have gone in front had Chas Elysee's shot not gone wide with the keeper beaten.

Delaney read an attack on 45 minutes well enough to divert the ball wide from danger. It was a mixed half with Borough just edging it.

Half time 0-0.

Only 40 seconds had elapsed when Dyer raced free, rounded three defenders and fired a cross low into the area. No one had followed up to divert the ball over the goal line.

1 min 40 secs and a cracking piece of football from Borough split us wide open. A shot had Fawcett beaten but Delaney had positioned himself well enough to head off the line.

It was end to end for a while and with 8 minutes gone we won three corners on the trot but only a Lanahan header had the possibility of pushing us ahead, the keeper though was again well placed to take the catch.

Borough looked the more likely to score. We had a couple of chances that didn't test anyone, whereas the Borough breaks made our defenders work hard.

Dear blocked a shot on the edge of the box and a square ball sent Murray away on the left. Dyer, Haskell and Williams worked the ball to the edge of the box but a wall of defenders cleared the danger.

Back into our half and this time a high cross was topped 10 yards out and bounced high over the bar.

60 minutes and Borough pressure paid off as we eased attacking the ball on the edge of the area resulting in an opening for a volley to hit the back of the net with Fawcett this time beaten. 0-1

9 minutes later another high ball from the right dropped on the edge of the 6 yard box. A size ten smashed the ball past Fawcett to make it 0-2.

We struggled to get back into the game and with three minutes left of the half Elysee took a through ball and slipped it past the advancing keeper....1-2.

Dyer went close and then Haskell fired just over the bar. 4 minutes of injury time and we went for it. Borough defended well and with 20 secs left cleared their box. A high bouncing ball was well gathered and slipped past Fawcett. Final score 1-3.
