Match Report Bournemouth vs Verwood Town 23-Feb-13

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 23RD FEBRUARY 2013
BOURNEMOUTH 1 VERWOOD TOWN 0

Four cry-offs mid day meant a total re think for Adie and Darts. Still, a good squad made the game, and a pleasant surprise was Bradley Hill's re appearance despite bearing a hair style reminiscent of an explosion in a horse hair sofa.

Bournemouth took only 3 minutes before testing Lynch. We were still sorting ourselves out when a quick break down Bournemouth's right gave space for a cross. Lynch pirouetted, and palmed the ball away to safety.

Hall intercepted a long ball and passed wide to Burch. Satts ran into space and Burch's defence splitting pass gave Satts a chance to shoot. The ball hit a full back and spun free.

The game meandered a bit with play more mid field than flank and we had to wait until the 13th minute for another Verwood push for goal. Evans made ground and before he could cross was dropped just outside the box.

Satts took the kick and planted the ball onto Kelly's head. The keeper palmed the ball away from under the bar. A half clearance fell to Burch but his left foot shot could only disturb the side netting.

Bournemouth seemed to have more bite than we had at this stage and a flurry of attacks pushed us back.

Evans was extremely busy and made some telling tackles sweeping behind our centre backs.

Murray having one of his rare outings was the hero when on 23 minutes Bournemouth carved us open to set up a shot only three yards out. Murray's timely tackle blocked the shot but it still needed an athletic Lynch to stop the ball crossing the line.

Satts on to Saxby on to Dyer and a testing shot was palmed over the bar. The corner dipped in but a strong header cleared the area.

Bournemouth's counter attacks were a threat and it took a superb Evans tackle to stop a clear chance with only ten minutes left of the half.

We rallied briefly and Gajic went close with a rising shot followed by Dyers angled shot that flew wide.

That was about it and the referee's whistle blew on a 0-0 half time score line.

Someone must have handed out 'Lethargy Pills' at half time. Second best to the ball, intricate passes to the opposition and a Matador skill in letting people pass by.

Lynch luckily must have missed the hand out as he covered the first shot, watching it skip off the post and then making a brilliant diving save.

3 minutes and Kelly got in the way of a volley followed by Murray blocking a shot.

5 minutes another attack had resulted in a dead ball. Lynch sent the ball into Bournemouth's half. Gajic headed on and Saxby hit a good shot but only to watch it fly over the bar.

Burch won a tackle on the left and a cross for Saxby was collected inches from Saxby's boot by the keeper.

Gajic then sent Dyer free but his shot went over the bar.

Bournemouth had waited patiently while we tried to show some energy, and stepped up the pace. Murray diverted one shot and Hall headed clear from another attack.

The back four did reasonably well considering this was their first outing as a unit, but struggled to contain a lively forward line.

Webb combined with Dyer to break up a mid field move and a ball wide found Satterley. A cross from the left and Burch headed wide.

73 minutes Webb made way for Hill. Hill's re introduction to football came with a hard knock as he collected a high ball then found himself on the deck as a hard tackle earned a free kick.

A floated cross found Gajic but the shot was woefully wide,

A minute later and Gajic freed Satts to try a shot. The bar rattled but the score line remained intact.

77 minutes a raid down the right a terrific low cross behind the defence and Bournemouth went ahead with a volley from 4 yards.

84 minutes had Lovell coming on for Burch but fresh legs didn't alter things and the game coasted to a 0-1 result.
