Match Report Brockenhurst vs Verwood Town 14-Aug-13

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
WEDNESDAY 14TH AUGUST 2013
BROCKENHURST 2 VERWOOD TOWN 1

Brock was out of the traps faster than hounds in the Greyhound Derby. Homer read it well though and proved equal to any front runner, cutting out the ball but giving away a corner.

An inswinger caused a brief skirmish in the box but Kelly cleared the ball upfield.

Dyer collected the clearance and sparked a quick counter attack. Saxby got into the box but instead of being a bit selfish and having a dip himself he tried to bring Webb into the picture with a pass in the box. An interception put the ball out of danger.

All of this with only 5 minutes on the clock. An excellent opening and for the spectators it was good to see with pace and good movement evident from both sides.

The game swung end to end, Homer and Evans were tested to the full but coped extremely well under intense pressure.. We got to grips in mid field and with 11 minutes on the clock Webb fought hard to win the ball and released Lovell. Lovell's run on goal came to an abrupt end as he was unceremoniously dropped just outside the box.

Up stepped Homer. A perfectly floated ball dropped in the 6 yard box but both Haskell and Lovell surprisingly were out jumped for a headed clearance.

It was honours even with effort and good football. Lovell was blocked just outside the area and then Oldring was the barrier to entry as Brock hit back.

Lynch caught a deep cross and then had to make a save at the foot of the post as Brock again looked to be first to score.

Saxby used his pace and guile to get to the bye line. A good cross and Haskell's sliding attempt to connect was only an inch away from a goal.

Evans worked the flank after robbing his opposite number of the ball. On to Saxby on to Lovell but Lovell's turn was stopped and a big boot gave a breather.

39 minutes a free kick by Homer found Haskell but a good strong header went straight to the keeper.

40 minutes saw Webb jink along the area and a right foot shot went wide.

47 minutes we had pushed up too far and a long clearance left a runner on a one on one. 1-0.

Half Time 0-1

First minute of the half and a long high ball into our box had both Kelly and Oldring making a determined effort to be first to the ball. This time Kelly won and a great header with direction found Evans. A line ball and Saxby worked his way to just outside the area. Down he went. Up stepped Homer but his free kick went the wrong side of the post.

A minute later Brock worked the right flank and an angled shot was headed clear by Oldring.

Lynch then had to make a save from just under the bar as Brock pressed forward.

Webb and Dyer made their way through a packed mid field and the end result was Hill firing just over the bar.

9 minutes gone and a good move by Brock finished with a through ball being threaded behind our defence. A volley hit the back of the net but the linesman's flag accurately judged an offside.

11 minutes and a double substitution as Haskell and Lovell made way for Elysee and Satterley.

12 minutes and Homer made a block tackle on the edge of the box robbing Brock from going in front.

Satterley benefitted from Dyer's hard work and a threaded ball to land just outside the box gave an opening. Satts delivered a pile driver but it was too direct and the keeper took a clean catch.

Pace was still a feature. There was no let up. Hill smashed a shot just over and Oldring joined the attack to plant a header just over the angle of post and bar.

19 minutes we were sucker punched. Pushing too far forward without cover meant a last ditch clearance out of Brock's box leaving a runner free. We went down to a well taken goal 0-2.

The game see sawed. Both areas got peppered but defences held up well and with both keepers in good form it didn't look as if any more goals would be scored.

Injuries meant extra time and with 95 minutes on the clock Satterley found space and a cross shot beat the keeper to put the score at 1-2. A late effort from Homer almost clinched a draw but the referees whistle blew on a Brock three pointer.

Result 1-2
