Match Report Verwood Town vs Bemerton 7-Sep-13

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2013
VERWOOD TOWN 1 BEMERTON HEATH HARLEQUINS 5

It was a much better squad this week with Gajic and Saxby returning from injury. Hill was still missing though but hoping to return next week.

It was a frantic start with Bemerton forcing a corner on the right. Oldring got to it first and cleared wide right. Dyer took up the running and a cross found Dan Munday racing in to the area. A strong tackle was judged fair as Dan tried a shot but was tumbled over.

Saxby and Munday broke free again on the right with Saxby feeding Haskell. A reverse pass to Munday gave space but the keeper read it well and quickly closed down the opportunity.

Only 8 minutes had passed and Bemerton threatened again with a cross field ball down the right. A cross whipped into the box finding an unmarked head but fortunately the ball went wide of the upright.

Homer's free kick on 13 minutes was almost turned in by Munday. The keeper punched clear and a counter attack produced a corner. Oldring powered a header our of the area and we bounced back through Smith. A good ball wide found Gajic. Gajic turned inside his marker and hit a long ball to Saxby. Saxby made the bye line and a deep cross should have produced a goal but the ball cleared the bar from Haskell's head.

36 minutes should have put us ahead with a Gajic shot but good defensive cover was enough to keep us from going ahead.

The whistle went at half time on a 0-0 score line.

We'd played well enough to have hopes of a scoring half but so had Bemerton.

30 seconds, a cross and Kelly's left peg half connected diverting the ball past Lynch. 0-1

2 minutes we hammered a corner into the area. Gajic swung a boot and skied the ball.

Bemerton swept straight back on the attack. A quick cross and our two attempts to clear failed. A simple tap in punished. 0-2.

Bemertons keeper superbly saved a Saxby angled shot and then palmed a Munday effort over the bar.

62 minutes had Haskell bringing Munday's pace into action with a good pass but yet again the keeper did exceptionally well to catch the volley.

We wilted. Bemerton got stronger. Haskell came off for Darren Munday. While we were still toying about Bemerton whiopped in to score their third.

Bemerton's movement got them into the box and Lynch made a brilliant save to stop another goal.

73 minuteds and Darren Munday slid the ball over the line 1-3.

Back came Bemerton making it 1-4 but Lynch had suffered a bad knee injury and had to come off.

Gajic adopted the gloves for the rest of the half and produced a tremendous save minutes after denying another goal to the visitors.

81 minutes and a corner found an unmarked body. A header past Gajic finished the scoring and the game at 1-5.

RESULT 1-5
