Match Report Verwood Town vs Horndean

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
WEDNESDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2017
VERWOOD TOWN 0 HORNDEAN 3

The opening spell saw both teams on attack. Horndean finished a move in the 8th minute, breaking through but powering a shot over the bar.

Lynch was comfortable with a high ball on the far post and at the other end the keeper competently took Whites cross from inside the 6 yard box.

Max Purton started his first full debut at right back and on 11 minutes cut out a dangerous break down `Horndean's left turning the ball back to Lynch for clearance.

Dyer sent Gajic through the middle with a pass inside the backs but Gajic buried his shot into the side netting.

Horndean's passing and movement gave them an edge and we chased the game for a time. During this period Purton, Smith, Donachy and Kelly did well to curb shots on goal. Any long efforts were comfortably handled by Lynch.

37 minutes gone and we lapsed concentration. Horndean capitalized and scored a simple goal from close in. 0-1.

The half finished with a Kimber creation for Fisk to try his luck. No luck.

Half Time 0-1

Heads were still absorbing what had been said in the dressing room as Horndean waltzed through to slam a shot past Lynch. 0-2 and only 2 minutes of the half gone.

Horndean continued pressure. We were forced back. A couple of counter attacks had White and Bergin on the flanks creating opportunities but no one was on hand to convert.

Lynch punched a corner away from under the bar and Kelly carried the ball wide releasing Bergin. A good run was halted by a strong tackle.

56 minutes we gave way for a cross to drop on the edge of the 6 yard box. A header virtually sealed the game. 0-3.

White whipped in a low cross a couple of minutes later but Bergin's shot went high and wide.

Webber replaced White on 73 minutes and Fisk came off for Simkins on 78 minutes.

Both sets of fresh legs couldn't alter the score line but we rallied for a few minutes and should have had a goal with a Bergin Dyer and Kimber break. Again the finish wasn't there.

Result 0-3
