Match Report Ringwood Town vs Verwood Town 31-Aug-19

BUILDBASE FA VASE 1ST QUALIFYING ROUND
SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST 2019
RINGWOOD TOWN 1 VERWOOD TOWN 1

Both defences were tested in the opening spell with both surviving close calls. Ringwood looked the sharper side claiming a couple of corners in the first ten minutes. Glatzel and Kelly dealt with aerial threats.

A cross shot went dead. Haigh picked out Vint. A 30 yard shot skimmed Ringwood’s post.

The dead ball kick was high into our area. A run down the their left and a low cross into the six yard box was tapped in 0-1. A stunner.

We were giving away too many passes. It looked as if we had decided to operate as Ringwood’s twelfth man.

Heggan’s return to the team was very welcome as his tenacity won several mid field balls and springing counters. We had no benefit from attacks as Ringwood stood solid in defence.

Then with ten minutes left Vint was dropped outside the area. Up stepped Chegs and the ball flew into the top corner making it 1-1.

Gray went close with a couple of minutes left but we went in with scores level

Half Time 1-1.

Nicolson had a run on goal from Heggan’s pass but his shot was well taken by the keeper.

Ringwood retaliated and it was Haigh’s turn to display good handling.

We then went through another spell of giving the ball away causing more concern in defence.

Ringwood fired over the bar from a couple of yards with 65 gone and we responded through Vint going down our left and cutting in. The keeper made a despairing lunge. Vint shot on target from a narrow angle but a defender had got back to head off the line

. The keeper’s wanderlust almost played into our hands with 27 gone when Vint chipped the ball over him and watched in agony as it drifted wide.

We continued giving away the ball, and Ringwood continued to try and beat Haigh.

Crotty came on for Rutten and was soon in action. Chasing down a loose ball Crotty was just beaten to the ball by the keeper.

90 MINUTES 1-1 EXTRA TIME…… Tired legs were evident on both sides. Both though went for a winner so it led to good finish but without more goals being scored.

Result 1-1.

The replay will be at Potterne, Tuesday night 03 09 19.
