Match Report Verwood Town vs Broadstone 29-Sep-19

DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SUNDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN LADIES 2 BROADSTONE LADIES 3

A blustery afternoon across all games in the South today and certainly caused some difficult playing conditions.

The game kicked off and VTLFC deciding to play into the wind for the first half. It was back and forward bouncing about in the wind with both teams looking to get the ball down on the ground and play.

Broadstone pressed and had a number of shots off target and those on target dealt with our resolute keeper Karla. Broadstone took the lead through a shot being easily covered by our keeper but took an awkward deflection off a defending shinpad and travelled into the opposite corner on '24.

The goal gave the opposition more confidence to use the wind advantage and made use of the wings well. '35 to Broadstone from a long range effort from the left wing cutting in on the right foot and placing in the top corner.

Verwood as a team who battles hard and never gives up soon got the rewards. The right wing proving to give opportunities and a quick break saw Daisy driving into the box, knocking the ball around the keeper and then committed bravery from the onrushing keeper took her down. The ref played an advantage and our debutant Beth Kingsley slotted in her 1st goal of the season. '45+4

Half Time 1-2

Verwood pressed hard in the 2nd half with the wind behind them looking for an equalizer, however the wind typically dying down at times caused confusion for both teams.

Both teams continued trying to get a foothold on the game which was end to end.

Verwood found a 2nd gear on the left side and set free Tara down the left. Driving toward the goal Tara looped the ball over the keeper and a fine finish saw the teams level. '78. 2-2!!!!! GAME ON

A draw was probably a fair result for two equally hard battling teams and the result could have swung either way. Football is a funny old game and games are won and lost on single moments. Broadstone capitalised on an awkward bouncing ball in our box and slotted in past the keeper. '87

Both teams playing good football, with brave and talented goalkeeping and full and gritted determination.

Full Time 2-3

Player of the match votes by players and staff Karla Jordan (GK)

Thank you to Broadstone ladies for a great battling game and look forward to the reverse fixture.
