Match Report Merley Cobham vs Verwood Town 02-Feb-20

DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SATURDAY 2ND FEBRUARY 2020
MERLEY COBHAM 14 VERWOOD TOWN 1

Today the ladies were away to Merley. It was going to be a tough game from the off with a limited squad and starting with only 10 players.

Credit to the team for going out and giving it their all despite the challenge. Losing another player to injury during the 1st half was going to be even more of a challenge with 9.

Merley took an early lead and continued to press home their numerical advantage with numerous efforts at our goal and going in half time 10 goals to the good.

Believe me when I say the hard work of the players and especially our outstanding goalie today Karla Jordan and her valliant effort and drive the scorel would have been a lot lot more.

In the 2nd half and credit to the Merley girls they levelled the playing field and volunteered to go down to 9 players too.

Such good spirit and mentality should be applauded. It allowed a much closer 2nd half and both teams to create opportunities.

Verwood ladies never gave up and from the clutches of their strength scored with a deftly placed header direct from a corner. Sammie the taker and Zoe with a calm flick to really boost the morale of the team. Merley staff and team applauding the effort and finish was a nice touch.

The game played out in nice spirits and as football should be played. Both teams today a credit to the Dorset League and women's football.

Ref Kevin...I thought was superb and managed the game brilliantly.

PoM goes to Goalie and club legend Karla Jordan for numerous outstanding saves
