Match Report Amesbury Town vs Verwood Town 13-Aug-22

WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 13TH AUGUST 2022
AMESBURY TOWN 3 VERWOOD TOWN 0

Disson was in action in the first minute of the game taking a high ball into our box. A quick throw right found Mukambi and a good run and cross dropped on the edge of Amesbury‘s box. Fishlock shouldered off a defender, cut into the area only to shoot and see a good volley hit defenders and cleared. A bright opener.

Shocking defending on our part with only five minutes gone let in runners and Disson had no chance with a low shot into the bottom corner. A lesson learned ?? 0-1.

We were playing good football and enjoying a lot of possession but posed no threat in front of goal.

12 on the clock and we cut through mid field with Stock supplying a good ball for Hall, Hall rounded his marker and set up Mukambi for a run on the right. Good progress to the line finished with a tumble giving Amesbury a dead ball kick.

It was a frustrating long period of possession but no finish.

26 gone and a Carswell Fishlock run into Amesbury’s third finished with yet another shot going wide.

Mukambi, Carswell and Fishlock continued to press forward and on other occasions would have been on the score sheet. Not though in this game.

Half Time. 0-1

Shane Jackson came off for Joey Towers to have a run at the start of the half and Josh Hall made way for Isaac Storey.

Definitely one of those days. 4 minutes into the second half and 0-2. Another terrible piece of defending let in Amesbury for a simple downward header 2 feet off the line to hit the back of the net without challenge.

We wilted. Amesbury were allowed to gain possession and we failed to cope with their passing and movement.

Lench came on for Mukambi with 10 minutes gone but our changes didn’t influence the game in any way at all. We still topped shots in front of goal and our defending was open season for the home side.

The game meandered until in the 51st minute (including water breaks) of the half. We had camped for a period in Amesbury’s third but a simple clearance was punted high over mid field …..a runner and we were punished 0-3.

Result. 0-3
