Match Report Verwood Town vs New Milton Town 16-Aug-22

WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
TUESDAY 16TH AUGUST 2022
VERWOOD TOWN 0 NEW MILTON TOWN 1

A penalty on 31 minutes, a brilliant save by the NM keeper with only ten seconds left of the game, gave New Milton three points on offer.

It was a good game to watch for spectators. Both teams had an attacking flair with NM playing a more direct style. Within a minute of the kick off a long central ball tested our central defenders landing on the edge of the box. Jackson hammered it clear.

We countered. Fishlock won a corner. A half clearance fell to Carswell, a good volley beaten out dropped on the edge of the box. Stock slammed it back in. A half clearance and Fishlock got on the end of it to force a good save from the keeper.

The game continued end to end. We had a couple of good opportunities but couldn’t finish. Mason and Rossiter saw their shots whistle wide and a blaster from Carswell deserved more than a clipped post.

New Milton’s accuracy on channel runs paid off with 31 minutes gone when a through ball in the middle gave a runner space. Jackson’s tackle just inside the area was judged a foul ….penalty… 0-1.

We countered but yet again couldn’t find the net. New Milton followed with a good patch but Phillips was on top form resisting a score board change.

In the closing stages of the half Mason Storey and Stock created chances but we went in frustrated at 0-1.

Half Time. 0-1

NM carbon copied their first half start with a long ball down the right. A good cross spelled danger as players arrived in the area but Phillips was again on top form to make a save at feet.

We gathered momentum. Broad instigated a move on the left and a Mason run should have yielded as his cross beat defenders but no one got on the end of it to convert.

Half way through and it was still end to end. Smith and Jackson were on top of the aerial battle whilst Mason and Broad did well to curb flanks.

Hall made way for on 31 minutes and was instantly into the game making a great sliding tackle blocking a potential clear shot.

A minute of the game left, and we won a free kick 30 yards out. A well placed ball dropped on to the far post. Broad rose like a legless Gazelle to head for the top corner. A brilliant save by the keeper denied us a point that would have been well deserved.

Result 0-1. n
