Only a minute had elapsed when Ben Morgan suffered a hamstring pull. Jack Warburton luckily was available on the bench A replica of last week against Fawley !!

Current division leaders Downton pushed on from the start. There was no lackadaisical in approach in this fixture and it was a pleasure to see a solid response to their attack.

Kimber intercepted a ball intended for runners down the middle. A through ball to Shepherd sparked a counter. Shepherd’s angled shot skipped by the foot of the post. Downton hit back with a ball high into our box. Mitchell was out quickly to snuff out danger.

The game continued with both sides intent on attack. We had chances but yet again couldn't convert them into goals.

Kimber and Warburton provided an early impenetrable barrier to Downton's forwards and both Kerr and Danvers bottled up the flanks.

We contested mid field with good performances from Smith McWilliams and Carswell it led to a blank half time score line.

Half Time 0-0

2 minutes into the second half saw Downton’s first real crack at goal but with a shot just inside the box going wide.

This was one off our better games and some excellent movement should have yielded but yet again the finish was missing.

At this stage Shepherd looked like the Lone Ranger up top with Tonto still to make an appearance.

26 gone and a good approach finished with McWilliams skimming the post with a low shot.

Downton then did what we had been trying hard to do. Score. A long ball caught us too thin at the back. A runner went free …0-1.

On 30 minutes Shepherd brought a good save out of the Downton keeper. A long clearance and a minute later 0-2 as we left easy access to goal.

A frustrating finish had Downton on the back foot but keeping a clean sheet and taking the 3 points.

Result. 0-2
