Match Report Whitchurch United vs Verwood Town 04-Oct23

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
WEDNESDAY 4TH OCTOBER 2023
WHITCHURCH UNITED 0 VERWOOD TOWN 7

An Aidan Shepherd hat trick, Sam Hockey’s brace and a goal each from Cam Smith and Dillon King gave us an emphatic 3 points at Whitchurch.

It was one of our better performances, with Shepherd netting his first on11 minutes in a stirring all energy game.

Cam Smith scored with a rocket of a shot on 17 minutes and a minute later Shepherd notched his second with with an angled shot from just inside the box. 3-0.

Whitchurch rallied briefly but good defensive cover by Broad Kerr and Pope helped stave off threat on Mitchell’s goal.

Smith whilst covering in his defensive duties found time to join the attack and prompted Kings run on 22 minutes that should have resulted in our fourth of the night, but the Whitchurch keeper did well to clutch the ball on the line.

Hockey was enjoying freedom and linking with McWilliams split the Whitchurch defence, but again a good save from the keeper prevented more celebrations.

26 minutes constant pressure resulted in a penalty. Shepherd made no mistake in clinching his hat trick. 0-4.

5 minutes left and Hockey’s persistence paid off. A Shepherd volley was parried and Hockey, following in tucked the ball into the bottom corner.

Half Time. 5-0

Whitchurch defence buckled at the start of the half and with ten minutes gone gave away a penalty. This time King made his marker making it 0-6.

Whitchurch although rattled strung a couple of good moves together but Pope and Smith were on top of their opposite numbers and with Kerr and Broad having exceptional games Mitchell largely was unemployed.

Davis came off the bench replacing Carswell and Jordan Dibben trod the turf replacing Jack Broad after 15 minutes.

Hockey hit his second with ten left making it 7-0 and then on came Jack Knott from our U18’s team making his first debut for the first team.

On the whistle McWilliams hit the underside of the bar in a finishing flurry.

Result 7-0.
