VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2023
VERWOOD TOWN 4 FRIMLEY GREEN 2

Frimley caught offside just outside the box. Hockey racing past a defender only to see his cross intercepted and the ball booted over the pylons. Another attack sparked by Danvers had McWilliams weaving his way into the area and dropped in the box. The referee waved play on !!!!! What a start and all within 4 minutes of the whistle.

Frimley looked sharp and a counter attack went for dead as Broad shadowed the runner to the bye line.

9 minutes gone and a good Frimley attack finished with a cross and a side foot to give them the lead 0-1.

The growing character of our side came through with a retaliatory move sparked by Lowes and finished with a Carswell shot cleared off the line. We pressed.

Pope Richardson and Davis worked the ball forward after winning a tussle in the middle of the park. A ball destined for Hockey was intercepted and booted over the trees. Certainly no dainty inter passing at the back from Frimley’s defence.

19 gone and Whitelaw cut in from the right sending a low ball across the box. Carswell was the predator slipping the ball past the keeper to level scores. 1-1.

We were now enjoying more possession and got rewards on 26 minutes when McWilliams followed in and hammered a rebound off the cross bar into the roof of the net. 2-1.

Frimley’s fight back was good for spectators. We had the edge though on the day with a strong defensive display.

We kicked off the second half where we left off, slight edge on possession and good football. McWilliams had a couple of efforts shaving the post and hitting the cross bar followed by a blaster from Hockey that put the match ball as a missing missile.

A Frimley corner with 9 minutes gone was headed over the bar but sparking a Frimley fight back.

Mitchell pulled off a great flying save from the edge of the area and Davis headed clear a dangerous cross from under the bar minutes later.

15 minutes on came King for Whitelaw. 16 minutes on came Smith for Lowes.

We were still settling when a break saw Frimley put the ball in the net but thankfully flagged offside.

21 and a McWilliams Richardson Pope exchange left McWilliams free for a run on goal. There was no danger of the cutting edge not working this time. 3-1.

Frimley hit back, Danvers and Broad were well occupied with flank balls but containing the threat with good defensive cover.

26 we lapsed concentration and Frimley made it 3-2.

33. Broad made one of his runs on the right, a great cross was slid home by Carswell’s right boot. 4-2.
