Match Report Folland Sports vs Verwood Town 25-Nov-23

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2023
FOLLAMD SPORTS 0 VERWOOD TOWN 2

A shaky start could have resulted in an early Folland lead but a solid defence and a very much in form Reece Mitchell kept the score sheet clean while we settled down.

A free kick on 15 minutes by Ollie Lowes pin pointed Harrison Whitelaw and a great volley put us ahead against the run of play. 1-0.

Folland pushed on and almost had the ball in the net on 20 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box heading for the top corner. Mitchell stretched and safe hands prevented a score board change.

Matt Davis in an unfamiliar role ahead of the back four was enjoying the challenges and sparked off a couple of runs on goal with some good through balls.

Folland overall had the upper hand but we had a strong resilience and defended well.

2 minutes to go and we engineered a break on the right. A cross into the box and there was Whitelaw to execute a great half volley to register his brace.

Half Time. 2-0

We had settled, and from the re start gained possession. Carswell and McWilliams were dominant in setting up opportunities but this time it was Folland’s defence showing good cover.

King went close with a rising shot clipping the cross bar and then shaved the post with an angled shot from just inside the D.

Danvers and Broad had their counter parts under wrap and able to join attack in overlapping runs. The end result though was disappointing as we failed to convert good chances.

Folland’s counters were always dangerous but Pope Smith and Mitchell dealt very well with threats on goal.

Jordan Dibben came on to give Cam Smith a chance to gather splinters with 20 minutes left.

Folland picked up pace and played some good attacking football once again testing our defence. We stood firm and showed character with a fight back resulting in Ollie Lowes slamming a 30 yarder over the bar and Louis McWilliams sliding the ball just past the upright.

Then came a moment for the history books. Joe White climbed into his dubinned boots that sported polished reinforced toe caps and the inevitable leather strap across the toes. A quick check on the nailed on leather studs and Ollie Lowes took a breather while JW was helped into the forward line.

Folland’s attacking theme continued and Mitchell again showed top quality with some fine goalkeeping.

In the closing five minutes Carswell Dibben and White all had shots saved with one last toe poke on goal by JW skimming the upright from just inside the penalty area.

Result 2-0.
