Match Report Verwood Town vs Whitchurch 20-Apr-24

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 20TH APRIL 2024
VERWOOD TOWN 0 WHITCHURCH UNITED 3

Our inconsistencies popped up again in this home tie against Whitchurch.

The game was only 4 minutes old when we put together an attack on the Whitchurch goal. A poor finish gave the keeper an easy catch. A high drop kick back into our third, slack marking and we were looking at the wrong end of the score line 0–1.

From the solid looking defence against Aldermaston on Wednesday night we were showing a flimsy resistance.

A couple of chances cropped up but we were miles away from putting the ball in the net. Whitelaw and Brazier worked a good opening on 15 minutes but the ball nestled in the side nettIng rather than where it could have altered the goal difference.

We meandered through the half with close calls from a very direct Whitchurch.

Ferguson cleared an effort of the line and Pope won a series of headers as Whitchurch punished on.

45 minutes the whistle went but not for half time. 0-2. 46 minutes we headed for the dressing room.

Half Time. 0-2.

We didn’t pick up. Low adrenalin and lack of effort meant another 45 minutes of Whitchurch pressure without too much resistance.

We had a few flurries but overall didn’t compete the way we should have and with 29 minutes gone we gave way for a Whitchurch third. 0-3.

Brazier and Danvers came on for Pope and Kerr at the start of the half.

Hoey and Buggey came on for Ferguson and Callum Harrison with 15 minutes gone.

Changes did make a small difference with effort but insufficient to alter the result.

Result. 0-3.
