Match Report Verwood Town vs Wimborne Town 20-Jul-21

STEVE MOORE TROPHY
TUESDAY 20TH JULY 2021
VERWOOD TOWN 1 WIMBORNE TOWN 2

Wimborne sparked the first attack chipping a high ball into our box. Burt was first in to head clear. Meddeh took up the running quickly switched the ball wide right for Vining. A low cross was intercepted and cleared

We were treated to good flowing football with both teams intent on attack.

Kelly cut out a right flank move and his through ball released Freitas in the middle. A good run was blocked and again Wimborne's retaliation was swift, this time switching attack down their left. Burt cut across forcing an early cross. Maher's safe hands dealt with the danger.

We attacked through Butler and Davies but Davies final shot was held by the keeper. A long ball found a gap and we went one down as a clinical move on the edge of the box finished up with an unstoppable volley into the bottom corner. 0-1.

The pace continued. Danvers was now very instrumental in attacks down our left. Working well with Butler we cut several openings but Wimborne's defence was tight and kept us out of their six yard box

Vining had a 20 yarder caught under the bar and at the other end Maher did well to gather an angled shot on the post.

Half way through the half Wimborne's shift to attack down the middle was blunted by Hall. Strong tackles and intelligent use of the ball gave Meddeh and Butler chances but Wimborne's defence held firm.

Hall and Danvers finished the half with a left sided break and cross that Davies almost converted.

Half-time 0-1

Wimborne went straight on attack from the whistle. Danvers robbed a runner and we hit back down the left with Davies making a mazy run to the bye line. A deep cross was hammered just wide by Vining.

Freitas and Meddah worked an opening on the right. Meddeh made ground and released Butler. Butler's blistering pace took him clear of defenders and a volley whipped past the keeper. 1-1 with 10 minutes of the half gone.

Wimborne retaliated with an attack down their right. An attempt to cut inside was blocked by Danvers.

18 min Freitas gave way for Carvalho… 25 min Vining came off to give Guy a run and 2 minutes later Hancox came on for Burt.

The game continued at pace. We lapsed concentration on 33 minutes of the half and it was enough for a half chance to be rifled past Maher to put Wimborne ahead 1-2.

Guy Hancox and Freitas all made great contributions to the game but we couldn't alter the score line.

Result 1-2.
