15-May-14 Reserves Resurgence Worthy of NoteHomepage Headline - "Reserves Resurgence Worthy of Note"
Amid the end of Season Presentation Evening and awards it was worthy to note the performance from our Reserves side, who, after an indifferent start to the season went 9 unbeaten to finish 4th in the Wyvern League West. The Second Team are important to our club both in providing support to the First Team and bringing opportunities for playing at a competitive level to more individuals in the community
12-May-14 Carl Keen on Cup Success "Carl Keen on Cup Success"

Verwood Town manager Carl Poore has his sights set on cup success for the Potters after seeing fellow Wessex League side Sholing enjoy Vase glory at Wembley.

As he prepares for his first full season in charge of the Potterne Park outfit, he fully understands just how important cup competitions are to all clubs at this level.

Carl Keen on Cup Success Verwood will take part in the FA Cup, the FA Vase, the Dorset Senior Cup and the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup and Poore is no stranger to having a good cup run himself during his time at both Wimborne and Poole.

The Boatmen's success has again raised the profile of the Sydenhams Wessex League, a league that Carl believes is one of the best at this level in the country, "I think the Wessex League is one of the best around and that has been proved again with Sholing winning the Vase. As a player, I had very successful runs in both the FA Cup and FA Vase and when you have a run like that, it brings a huge aura to the club. As players you feel really wanted and with the coverage you get, it's great for the club.

Carl Keen on Cup Success You can't take away the fact that cup competitions can bring good rewards to any club and Poore knows that good cup runs can have a huge impact on the entire season, "It's not just the players who get something out of a cup run, it's the club and the town as a whole. You have to look at the financial side of it as well and there is good money involved, so you have to look at that aspect of it. The prize money in the two FA competitions now can make a big difference to the season as a whole. You just have to look at non-league clubs who have done well and it covers their expenses for a season."

The Potters boss has seen cup success at first hand and is urging his charges to take the opportunities that will present themselves in the 2014-15 campaign, "We have to go out to do well in the cup competitions. I got to the semi-final as a Wessex League player and a Wessex League side have just won it and that proves that we all have a chance. It is all about how you perform on the day and it's about taking in pride in the club and to get the club in to the next round. We know that the further we can go, the more interest the club can attract from local people who may come here for the first time and then see just what a good set up we have here."

13-Apr-14 The Golf Report "The Golf Report" - I have obviously been good in a previous life as yet again we were blessed with perfect weather for our 5th Annual Golf day held at Crane Valley last Friday. Ten teams of 4 players entered and hopefully a good day was had by all. Delighted to report that the Clubs finances are £1,100 better off and we owe a massive thanks to all the competitors, sponsors, the Golf Club and the hard working helpers.

The Golf ReportThe overall individual winner who is off to Portugal with his prize was Simon Guy who bagged an impressive 40 Stableford points.

The winning team was Adie's dream team consisting of Adi Arnold, Danny Saxby, Jim Dyer and Pete Barham. The winning score was 121 points. Second team was Galer's bricklayers with 119 points and third Newtown Builders with 116.

Nearest the pin and the longest drive were both won by Scott Taylor who showed no embarrassment coming up to collect two prizes! Nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th was won by Ray Jenkins and he got a £40 voucher for a meal at the Spice of India. His 3 team mates (including me) are still awaiting our invites to join him for dinner.......!

We needed a putting play off for the putting competition between Phil Manning and Jim Dyer which Phil managed to win.

Congratulations to all of them!

It should also be mentioned that the team in 10th received a trophy each. They only secured 91 points and normally we would not mention names, but as it personally gave me so much satisfaction here they are, Roger & Dan Coggan, Billy Andrews and Tony Cooper!

Finally the thank you's:-

  • Hole Sponsors: Aliport, Shaun Gale, ITserV Services, NewTown Builders, Rossgarth YFC, Spice of India and Billy Andrews.

12-Apr-14 Poore takes charge "Poore Takes Charge"

Carl Poore officially takes over as the manager of Verwood Town on Saturday and the former AFC Bournemouth, Dorchester, Wimborne and Poole Town defender is relishing the new challenge.

It is a step up from the Dorset Premier League where he was boss of neighbours Cranborne, a step he is looking forward to taking, "I can't wait for the challenge to start. The Wessex League is one of the best in the area. It's such a strong league with some big clubs in it.

"Verwood is a big town and I believe that it deserves a good football club. I know the club well and when you look back only a few years, the improvements have been vast. The ground is nice for supporters and they can see a very good young team playing in a decent semi-professional league.

Poore takes charge "For me this period is now looking toward next season and we have some very good games to end this one. It is my job to continue the good work that has been done here and to keep building. I have spoken to the players as a group and individually and told them what direction I want us to go and it has all been very positive."

The new man in charge has said that there will be no wholesale changes at the club, but with his contacts within the local non-league scene, he will be hoping for to bring in some new talent, "I have played in this area for many years and I know a lot of players. I will not be taking anything away from the players we have here now though as they all deserve their chance.

"I look at the league table though and the way results have gone recently and I know we need to be improving on that. The aim next season has to be for being in mid table and with the way they play against the big teams in this league, we should be capable of that. They have struggled against some of the lesser sides and we need a mentality where we raise our game in each match, and not just against the top teams."

Poore takes chargeThe start can't be much harder as following three defeats on the trot the Potters now face a tricky tie against a struggling Fawley who have everything to play in the match at Potterne Park on Saturday (kick off 3.07 pm), this is then followed by a visit to Wembley bound FA Vase finalists Sholing!, but Carl is looking forward to being in the dug out, "It's a tough start, I'm just looking forward to it though and want the lads to show me what they are capable of. It's a step up for me as a manager, but one I know I'm ready for and I'm just delighted to be the manager here and getting started and what I hope will be another successful period for the club."

4-Apr-14 Potters Appojnt PooreHomepage Headline - "Potters Appoint Poore" Carl Poore (right) with Verwood Chairman Steve Jefferis is announced as new Verwood Team Manager

Verwood Town FC are delighted to announce that Carl Poore has been appointed as manager of the Potterne Park Outfit.

Poore has been the manager of Dorset Premier League side Cranborne, taking the reins in 2013 after becoming a well-respected defender in local non-league circles, playing for the likes of Dorchester Town, Wimborne Town and was captain of a highly successful Poole Town side. Carl was a key figure in the Dolphins Wessex League winning squad in 2009 and also the side that reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase in 2011.

He was forced to announce his retirement from the playing side of the game through a knee injury and showed a great eagerness to remain in the game, qualifying as a coach and then being appointed as Cranborne manager before being announced as the new Verwood boss.

Potters Chairman Steve Jefferis is delighted with the appointment, saying, "We had a lot of interest in the manager's position, but the appointment of Carl was a unanimous decision. He is local to the area and knows the club, has good contacts and knowledge of the Wessex League and has drive, determination and knows how to get the best out of players."

"He has a great deal of respect in local non-league circles and importantly knows many of the Verwood players and we are all extremely pleased that he is the man to take the club forward. The appointment comes at a vital time as it will give us the stability that every club needs approaching the close season. It will give Carl the time to assess the squad and we can be fully prepared for the 2014-15 season."

30-Mar-14 Thanks from the Vice-Chairman
It had potential for a very difficult day yesterday with a number of Committee members being away for the weekend coupled with the major changes within the Club.

I don't wish to labour on these points but rather say a massive thank you to all those that have rallied round to help.
Unfortunately the result went against us but we are indebted to Danny Saxby for stepping in as interim manager and the Players for turning out in their numbers. The changing room atmosphere is good and a lot of that is down to Bernie and Dan Scott.

Off the pitch the set up cavalry superbly marshalled by Roy were brilliant. The Clubs thanks must go to Colin and Kevin for putting up the banners, Jennie, Greg and Lila for running the kiosk and other helpers I saw down there including Martin Gilham, Alec Guthrie, Jim Dyer, Mike Fry, Steve Yerby and Wattsy. If I have missed anyone out my sincere apologies but I wasn't out pitch side for long after the game.

Well done and thank you to everyone who helped.

8-Feb-14 Potters Ready for the Next Step "Potters Ready for the Next Step" - First Team Manager Adie Arnold interview with Mick Cunningham

Verwood Town FC have followed the path of the Dorset town with rapid growth in recent years, and highly respected manager Adie Arnold believes the club is ready to step up the progression

The club have moved quickly from Bournemouth and Hampshire leagues to competing in the Wessex League Premier Division as well as the FA Cup and FA Vase. The club have moved on from playing on park pitches to their Potterne Park home. The stadium is a testament to the hard work of a number of Verwood people who have dedicated many hours for the love of the club.

There is seating, covered terracing and now a tea bar, making the experience of watching 'The Potters', a highly enjoyable one. Now just one step away from Southern League football, the club are urging the people and businesses in the town to get behind their local club, a club that is doing the town of Verwood proud.

Potters Ready for the Next Step It has been manager Adie Arnold who has overseen the progression on the field and he believes that the town can come together to help the football club continue it's remarkable progression, "We need some input so that we can keep the nucleus of the young side we have here together." Explained the manager.

"We have a great bunch of lads here, and with finances, the majority will stay with me. I am looking to progress, the players want to progress and the club want to progress. We all have that ambition here and with investment, we can realise that."

The philosophy of the club has always been to give young players a chance to flourish and Arnold is certain with investment, they can be allowed to reach their potential, "We have a really good group here. In my time at Verwood, I have built up three teams, and this is the best one. A lot of the players have been at other clubs, but have not been given a chance. They have come here and we have nurtured them and we know that if we keep this side together, we can push on as a club, but have to have more to offer the players.

Potters Ready for the Next Step Arnold is urging people of Verwood to get behind their local club, whether individuals coming along to the game or local businesses backing their local club, "I don't think that people in the town of Verwood realise what level we play at. We play in a good semi-professional league, we play in the FA Cup and the FA Vase. When I speak to people and tell them that, they are gobsmacked that they have a club like ours on their doorstep. It's a good standard of football, it's entertaining, the lads always give their all and try and play the game in the right way.

"The potential is here, we now need the people and the businesses of Verwood to get behind the club and us to continue to move forward."

WANT TO GET INVOLVED? We want local businesses to get involved with their local club. We can offer match, manager and player sponsorship packages, ground advertising, programme advertising, we can cater for any partnerships to help the continued progression of Verwood Town FC and to raise the profile of any company. Please contact Verwood Town Football Club Chairman Steve Jefferis or Mick Cunningham Publicity manager.

10 man Verwood perform with great credit against Alresford Town in the FA Carlsberg Vase match. With only 10 for most of the match, Nathan Saxby pulls one back after the visitors had extended their lead to two goals after the half-time interval and get back into the match. But having to push forward with a tired legs it's unsurprisingly Alresford who counter with two goals at the finish to take a comfortable victory 4-1. 7-Sep-13 Following the match on Saturday, 21 participants entered our Annual Games night being a mixture of Players, Committee members, Supporters and Wives/Girlfriends. This year youth prevailed over experience!

With Boyd's Social Club till kept busy and hot dogs and buffet helping to keep everyone fuelled the battles commenced.

The Table Tennis, always difficult to do with a few pints sloshing around inside was retained by Ben Kelly. The final was between Ben and James Murray and it was a close run game. Congratulations to Ben and also Galer who made it to the semi's despite being twice the age of any of the other final four.

The Pool saw some interesting matches and in a turnaround of previous years the Committee were falling by the wayside with the players dominating. I am classing Danny Saxby as a player and unfortunately he and Alex Brooker were losing semi-finalists with the final between Mike Haskell and Ben Kelly. Mike went onto win and congratulations to him. A special mention to Jennie Munson who made it through to the Quarter finals only to be beaten by the eventual winner. It should be mentioned also that previous champion Roy Mortimer did not get past the first round!

The Darts was a closely fought battle between the ages. Again the champion Roy fell at the first hurdle but the semis saw Galer play Nathan Saxby with Mike Haskell taking on the competitive and past champion Adrian Arnold. The final was between Adi and Nathan and despite being told he'll never be selected for the first team again Nathan ignored this and went onto win.

However, not to be outdone the Committee wiped the floor with the football cards with the winners being Chairman Steve and Secretary Roy!

There was a terrific atmosphere which formed a most enjoyable evening and thanks go to everyone who helped, especially Laura who kept score and kept the tournaments ticking over and Jennie and Anna for their efforts with the food and tidying up. In addition I am pleased to announce we made a profit of £115 for Club funds..

A big thank you to everyone who attended. Next event, the Quiz, details to follow shortly....mrsociable...Mr Sociable

11-Jul-13 Wyvern League Announces Wyvern Shield and League Cup Competition News - With the small divisions it is inevitable that we will run a Shield competition this season. At the start of the season there are the usual uncertainties caused by outside cup competitions but there are other imbalances which cause difficulties. As an example on September 7th, the West Division has only two grounds available whereas the East Division has at least 7 (possibly as many as 9) grounds available. It will help to overcome this imbalance if we were to start the Shield competition as soon as possible. The League Committee has considered the situation and it looks as though 28 of our 32 teams want to take part (a couple of replies are still awaited). There will be 4 groups of 7 with each team playing the other once. The top 2 teams from each group will progress to a knock out phase. The following are the groups:

GROUP A - Bemerton H.H., New Milton, Downton, Laverstock, Team Solent, Colden Common, Tadley Calleva
GROUP B - AFC Totton, Wimborne, Christchurch, Hythe & Dibden, Verwood, Locks Heath, US Portsmouth
GROUP C - Sholing, Fawley, Lymingto, n Ringwood, Follands, Horndean, Alton
