Following a change in Government advice, The F.A. has issued a statement recommending that all grassroots football is suspended for the foreseeable future. In accordance with that advice, the Sydenhams League (Wessex) has postponed upcoming fixtures. The matter will be kept under constant review and we will act in line with advice we receive from The F.A. and the Government.

This unfortunately does include our fixture against East Cowes. Having taken soundings from sides, apart from pitch conditions the main concern was that ferries may get suspended preventing getting back across the Solent.

hlpix "Fixtures" - Revised league fixtures now received (including those previously missing Petersfield and Folland matches). To note that at present the away tie at Follands is currently scheduled to be reversed and played at Potterne. This due to the Wessex Board decision to reverse fixtures for clubs that have not yet provided the required floodlight certificate for their ground (inc. Follands). Once the required certificate has been provided (possibly in the meantime), the kick offs and venues will revert to the normal times.

The cup journey ends at Weymouth as the National League South outfit prove too strong in depth for Verwood. That's how it all felt, or perhaps it was all a dream and we'll wake up to a different result (fraid not!). Definitely a 'lacklustre' performance by the Potters which coupled with effective passing and sharp finishing by our visitors left this as one to forget. Depite going in three down at half-time, first half opportunities if converted could have made it a much closer match. However, despite some late consolation goals it could only really be regarded as a humiliation as Laverstock hit seven and run away as 7-2 winners. Verwood Town Supporters Matchman was Charlie Gajic.

An early Verwood goal gets the game off to a good start, but this and a later Verwood goal is levelled by the visitors. A quick response again sees Verwood go in front. Wool keep the pressure on in the latter stages searching for an equaliser but Verwood hold firm to take the win 3-2.

Ladies were back in action on Sunday after a weeks inaction due to the weather. Both teams worked hard to get the game played with Verwood calling in favours from Groundsman, refs, linesman and the weathermakers to ensure it went ahead. After a late cancellation and ref pull out at Wimborne the fixture was reversed. Wimborne emerged winners in a competitive match which finished 1-4.

A Bemerton goal in the first minute signalled danger (pictured). It didn't go all their way however and Verwood had recovered to a deficit of 2-1 in the second half and were pushing to level. However, our visitors found another gear and two more goals ended any Verwood hopes which were further hit by another 2 goals as the game drew to a close. 6-1 to Bemerton in the end. Without a dedicated substitute keeper today, Verwood were forced onto the back foot as goalkeeper Sam Thompson was forced to leave the field through injury with the game little more than 10 minutes old. Striker Lee Vint picked up the gloves and both he and the defence were required to put in some hard work as the match progressed. Ollie Davis put Verwood ahead after the injury stoppage and Verwood have the edge to lead at the half. Whitchurch push for an equaliser after the break and level on 51 minutes. It finishes 1-1. Originally believing the club to be founded in 1920, we have now found it was actually established in 1905. We shall be holding celebrations next year to celebrate our 'Lost Centenary' and 115 years of Verwood Football Club. An event on 21st March at the Verwood Hub has been scheduled, keep the date. We will be looking to get together as many 'old faces' as possible.
